Hmm, that's a good question! I didn't take the original photo, so I can't be sure; but the shell looks a bit smoother and flatter than a slider's. I'm thinking it may be a western painted turtle.
They are wonderful creatures! I have a favourite turtle up at our local arboretum, and I'm sure I'm projecting but he always seems to come show off when people are there to see him.

That's true. Oh I once had a snapping turtle that I set free due to his size and I come visit him every now and again. He brings me dead snakes.
